Former U.S. Attorney Joins Stumphauzer & Sloman

Miami, FL | June 2015 – Miami-based litigation boutique announces that former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jeffrey H. Sloman has joined the firm as a shareholder. With the addition of Mr. Sloman, the firm will now be known as “Stumphauzer & Sloman.” Mr. Sloman will focus on representing individuals and companies in white collar criminal defense cases, government enforcement actions, whistleblower lawsuits, and complex litigation matters.

As United States Attorney, Jeff served as the chief federal law enforcement officer from May 2009 until May 2010, where he led the federal effort to protect the safety and security of the more than six million people residing in South Florida. He focused on national security, organized crime, public corruption and a wide-variety of white-collar criminal offenses including health care fraud, securities fraud, mortgage fraud, and money laundering. Under his skilled leadership, the U.S. Attorney’s Office achieved a record number of convictions, including cases involving the prosecution of the largest Ponzi scheme in Florida history, a court-appointed receiver and trustee, numerous Medicare and bank fraud offenses, multiple elected public officials and high ranking members of international organized criminal organizations.

Prior to being sworn in as U.S. Attorney, Jeff distinguished himself as a career federal prosecutor, serving as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Criminal Division, the number two and three positions in one of the largest U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the nation.

Mr. Sloman is a highly-accomplished trial lawyer. During his 20-year career with the Department of Justice, Mr. Sloman tried nearly 75 criminal cases to verdict. Those trials involved complex health-care and bank fraud, organized crime, terrorism, public corruption, violent crime and narcotics trafficking. The Department of Justice honored him twice with one of its most prestigious national awards. In 1997 and 2003, Mr. Sloman received the “Director’s Award” for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney. His 2003 Director’s Award was for the first post-September 11, 2001 prosecution of two radical Islamic fundamentalists whose goal was to bomb various South Florida installations on behalf of Osama bin Laden.

Since leaving the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2010, Jeff has successfully handled high-profile product liability cases where he received several multi-million dollar jury verdicts. In 2014, the Daily Business Review named him the “Most Effective Lawyer” for winning a $5 million “first-of-a-kind verdict” against Philip Morris USA, Inc. http://www.dailybusinessreview.com/id=1202677930289/FirstofaKind-Verdict-Blames-Smoking-for-Heart-Disease.
